As Dr. Huff embarks on the next chapter of her career, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for her service and the lasting impact she has made. The following open letter highlights Dr. Huff’s key accomplishments and the indelible mark she has left on the industry:
Dear Dr. Huff,
On behalf of Generation Atomic, we want to express our sincere appreciation for your leadership and dedication to advancing nuclear energy during your tenure as the Department of Energy’s Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy.
Your work over the past two years has significantly contributed to the development and deployment of nuclear energy in the United States, strengthening domestic nuclear fuel supplies, and restarting a consent-based approach to managing spent nuclear fuel. Your efforts to preserve and expand the United States’ existing nuclear fleet, particularly through securing funding to restart the Palisades nuclear power plant and extend the life of Diablo Canyon, have been crucial in ensuring a reliable, carbon-free energy supply for millions of Americans. Under your tenure, we saw the United States lead a global commitment to triple nuclear energy capacity by 2050. And then, to ensure we can fuel these new reactors, you led a multi-state partnership to invest in new uranium enrichment capacity. All of this underscores your dedication to ensuring a robust and secure nuclear energy sector, not just for the United States, but for the world at large.
We particularly appreciate how your willingness to engage meaningfully with grassroots organizations like Generation Atomic has helped build a more inclusive and effective coalition in support of nuclear energy, one that brings together policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and grassroots advocates. This collaborative approach is essential for driving meaningful progress and ensuring that nuclear power remains a key part of our nation’s clean energy mix.
Thank you for your service, Dr. Huff. Generation Atomic wishes you all the best in your future endeavors and looks forward to your continued advocacy for nuclear energy.
Sincerely,
The Generation Atomic Team
